About Us

Your child is in great hands!

A Note From the Founder

A very warm welcome to The Little Lighthouse Nursery. I hope the information given helps you make the right choice for you and your child. Being a mother of two amazing girls and one superstar son, I know just how important it is for parents to find the perfect nursery.

A child’s first day at nursery is filled with many ambivalent emotions. Parents often put on a brave face for their little one, whilst many secret tears are shed. I never take for granted the importance of a parent entrusting their little worlds into my hands.

To give you a little background about me, I have a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Psychoanalytical Developmental Psychology. Two work placements later as an Assistant Clinical Psychologist I decided to pursue a career in teaching. I completed my teacher training (PGCE) at the University of Cambridge and I have not turned back since. I have been an ABA Therapist for children on the Autistic Spectrum and I have had the pleasure of working in an outstanding special educational needs (SEN) school, where I added to my wealth of knowledge concerning different educational needs. I have had many years of experience working with children in a variety of different settings, and over 10 years experience in Reception (EYFS) & KS1.

If you have a love of Montessori philosophy and Scandinavian interiors then this is the nursery for you! At The Little Lighthouse Nursery I seek to create a home-from-home feel. You can expect a fun and vibrant nursery where children learn politeness and respect for one another, an environment that encourages independence and self autonomy and where children feel free to navigate themselves in their space.

…and Languages? Of course! Did you know that the first five years of child’s life is a pivotal one? It is during these early years that children’s brains are being hardwired ready for adulthood. This is why your choice of nursery is just as important as the choice of a school or university, if not more! We teach children French through fun and interactive online sessions.

I come from a musical family and have many memories of my late grandmother playing the piano with her eyes closed. I have always had a love for music and have played many instruments, ranging from a harp to the delightful recorder. Research demonstrates the importance of music and instruments and so the children at The Little Lighthouse will take part in regular violin lessons, as well as music sessions using a range of percussion instruments.

It has been a pleasure to provide a little snap shot of The Little Lighthouse Nursery. Let’s make something outstanding together.

Our Ethos

Fun is the number one factor here at The Little Lighthouse Nursery. We want your child buzzing at the end of each day, inundating you with all the things they have done. We hope to promote and embed good manners and behaviour and ensure that they are good role models and are respectful of one another.

A tidy, clean and safe environment is essential, which is why we promote frequent handwashing. Toilets are checked on a regular basis and risk assessments are conducted to ensure all safety measures are in place. The space is designed with your child in mind, and so play equipment and furniture are designed to be accessible for them to encourage a greater sense of self autonomy. It also helps children to understand it is their space.

Our current members of staff are professional and friendly with the natural zeal and energy you need to work with the young ones. At The Little Lighthouse Nursery, we will always endeavour to recruit staff that have a genuine love for children.

We hope to nurture resilient, confident and friendly children and understand the importance of parent partnership and work hard to build good and trusting relationship with our parents.

T – Team. We understand that achieving excellence requires a strong collaborative effort between members of staff, parents and children. We therefore make it our duty to ensure we are all working together to impart knowledge for the best interests of each and every child. The ‘Team’ ethos filters down to the nursery children who are constantly learning the importance of being part of a team. They soon learn what part they play within the team and begin to appreciate that their own actions can either impact positively or negatively within The Little Lighthouse Nursery Team.

L – Learn. The best learning occurs when children learn through experiences that inspire and effectively build longlasting memories. We therefore subscribe to a hands-on approach so that strong foundations and high quality learning can take place. We also aim to bring experiences to the nursery and for children to partake in visits outside of nursery to make it more meaningful for them. Our pedagogy reflects a deep appreciation that every child is unique and so our approach is always varied and reflective dependent on each child.

– Love. Children are encouraged to celebrate their own individual differences and are given the space to express themselves in a way true to them. We feel this is the precursor for self-love, self-confidence and esteem, which is another fundamental component for effective learning. Children also learn the importance of showing love and kindness to their friends and the people around them.

N – We seek to foster a nurturing environment that has a home-from-home family feel. Trusting relationships between children and staff is paramount and only once this has happened can high quality learning take place. We therefore do our best to make transitions from home to nursery as pleasant as possible.

Reviews

Helen: “I am delighted to share our heartfelt testimonial for Little Lighthouse Nursery. Our daughter has been a pupil at this prestigious nursery school since day one, and we couldn’t be happier with her experience.

From the moment she joined, our daughter has formed incredible friendships with her peers, making her excited to go to school every day. The staff at Little Lighthouse Nursery are truly exceptional – they are not only professional but also friendly and courteous, creating a warm and nurturing environment for the children.

One of the remarkable aspects of Little Lighthouse Nursery is their dedication to academic excellence. Thanks to the school’s guidance, our daughter has developed exceptional reading skills at a very young age. Additionally, she has a remarkable grasp of numbers and is even learning French. We are amazed by her progress and grateful for the opportunities provided by the school.

We cannot express enough gratitude to the staff at Little Lighthouse Nursery. Their commitment to nurturing and educating these young minds is truly commendable. They are equipping these children with the skills and confidence they need for future success. The Little Lighthouse Nursery team should be immensely proud of the important work they are doing.

Thank you, Little Lighthouse Nursery, for creating such a positive and enriching environment for our daughter. We are forever grateful for the impact you have had on her educational journey and future prospects.”

Abbie: “Ella was one of the first children to join the little lighthouse nursery and it was the best decision we have ever made! The nursery is so safe, tranquil and such a loving warm environment and Ella has been thriving there! Every one of the team members are friendly, passionate and great with the kids. The nursery goes above and beyond – teaching the children to read and write, brush their teeth and also arranges lots of extra curricular activities. Ebony is the best and you can tell childcare and their well-being is a passion of hers. We couldn’t recommend the nursery more – thank you Ebony.”

Louise: “Not only is The Little Lighthouse a nurturing environment where our son learns so much, I also see the genuine love, care and attention the team give to him. It’s really special and having used different nurseries in the past, it feels unique to The Little Lighthouse. From music lessons to football, trips from local services to little explorations in the garden, our son gets to try new things every day and it amazes us how his reading, writing, speech and social development is coming on leaps and bounds. Thank you to everyone at The Little Lighthouse for creating such a wonderful space for our little ones.”

Catherine: “Our daughter loves attending The Little Lighthouse Pre School. She talks with excitement to us about what she has been doing each day. Particularly the outdoor activities, trips out, preparing snacks & group games! It is a joy to know how she enjoying her day! All the teachers are so caring and supportive every day.”

Tanya: “Little Lighthouse Nursery came highly recommended, and we were delighted when our child settled in well from the very beginning. The transition sessions definitely helped a lot. We have been kept informed about each day at Nursery, and appreciate very much it each time we get a check-up email when our child is too poorly to attend. Although our child only joined the Nursery in October 2023, we have noted remarkable developmental progress over these few months. Our child loves music, and it’s a privilege that music lessons are offered at such a young age. We look forward to watching our child grow while continuing to learn and play at Little Lighthouse Nursery.”

Gemma: Choosing a Nursery for my child was made simple once I visited The Little Lighthouse Nursery.  A warm, supportive and nurturing environment means that Vincent is always happy to attend and speaks with such positivity and joy about his days at Nursery.  I have been impressed with how much Vincent is learning at Nursery: from phonics to numbers to his understanding of the world.  The range of activities and experiences that the children get at The Little Lighthouse Nursery is wonderful including learning the violin, speaking French and a visit from a Fire Engine. I had high hopes for Vincent’s time at Nursery and The Little Lighthouse Nursery exceeds them: it is the most inspiring place for children and adults alike!  I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Celina: We started sending our son to The Little Lighthouse Nursery in March 2023 when he was almost 3 years old. The nursery do lots of activities with the kids giving them lots of new opportunities. The feel when you go into the nursery is so calm it’s lovely. There are different areas set up to allow children the choice of activity and a separate sensory/quiet room for when the kids want to chill. My boy has had the opportunity to participate in learning french, learning to play musical instruments and football lessons. He would not have had these opportunities had I kept him home. The staff are so caring it really is the best nursery around!
