The British Values

How do we promote the British Values at The Little Lighthouse Nursery?

It is a government requirement that school and nursery settings teach and promote The British Values. The purpose of this is to help encourage a safe and welcoming community where they feel they belong.

These British values are defined as:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty and mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

These values are universal aspirations of equality and are considered essential in nurturing future compassionate, considerate adults who make up a fair and equal society.

At The Little Lighthouse Nursery we demonstrate these values through the implementation of the EYFS. We also ensure that the children make contact with community to help them understand where they fit within soicety and their role in it. For example, we go for walks in the local area, make visits to our local Weald, visit the Library bus, visit our local residential home on a fortnightly basis, visit a few locals to buy our eggs, visit and drop food off to our local food bank, visits to our local church to name a few. Below are some more examples for the set values for your information.
